Maharaja Raghubir Singh

Raja Sarup Singh was succeeded by his son, Yuvraj Raghbir Singh, born in 1832. The formal ceremony to mark his installation as the new ruler took place at Jind Fort on March 31, 1864, and was attended by prominent dignitaries such as the Maharaja of Patiala, the Raja of Nabha, and the Nawab of Malerkotla (Kanaihya Lai, p. 114). Upon assuming power, Raghbir Singh focused on transforming Sangrur into his principal residence, undertaking numerous developmental projects that included reconstructing the marketplace, creating lush gardens, building public amenities like water tanks and temples, and laying down metalled roads for better connectivity (Gian Singh, p. 698).

In 1874, a rebellion broke out in Dadri and other newly acquired areas following the Mutiny. Demonstrating strong leadership, Raghbir Singh led his forces in person and swiftly quelled the unrest within a month. He also provided significant military support, sending a contingent to help suppress the Kuka movement in 1872, and later contributed 700 soldiers, including cavalry and artillery, to the British forces during the Second Afghan War (1878-1879) (Muhammad Latif, p. 332).From 1877 to 1887, Raghbir Singh served as a Councillor of the Empire and was awarded the hereditary title of Raja-i-Rajgan in 1881 (The Punjab Past and Present Volume 1 by Dr. Ganda Singh). Additionally, he was appointed Colonel-in-Chief of the Jind Imperial Service Regiment, known as Suraj Mukhi, further solidifying his leadership role.
Raghbir Singh was married twice. His first wife, H.H. Dadriwale Maharani Sri Sama Kaur Sahiba, was the daughter of Phugat Jat Jagirdar Chaudhari Jawahar Singh of Dadri. His second marriage was to a daughter of Shergill Jat Jagirdar Sardar Gian Singh of Rajamajra. Known for his remarkable judgment and honesty, he passed away on March 7, 1887 (Gian Singh, p. 698).
